IL State Scholars

We would like to congratulate five of our seniors that have been recognized as Illinois State Scholars.  State Scholars are selected annually based on standardized test scores combined with sixth semester class rank. These exceptional students rank in approximately the top ten percent of graduates from Illinois high schools.  Our five Illinois State Scholars are:  Isabelle Gratz, Clayton Rahn, Jasmine Shafer, Briar Smith and Henry Vonderheide.

Isabelle Gratz is the daughter of James Gratz and Rachel Padgett.  She plans to attend Murray State University and major in Engineering Physics.  She will also be a member of their Rifle Team.  She is currently a member of Central Illinois Precision Shooting and Lutheran Youth Fellowship.  At school she is the Vice President of National Honor Society, Vice President of Language Club, Treasurer of Business Club, Vice President of Future Business Leaders of America, Eastern Area FBLA Secretary, Drama Club, LEO Club, WYSE Club and Book Club.  

Clayton Rahn is the son of Zachary and Jessica Rahn.  He plans to go to Lake Land Community College and then possibly transfer to a four year university.  His current career path is undecided, however he is considering a trade program and taking classes in electrical and construction.  At school he is part of the National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Treasure of Tech Club.  

Jasmine Shafer is the daughter of Jeremy Shafer and Regina Shafer.  She plans to attend either Southern Illinois University Edwardsville or Murray State University.  At this time she is undecided on a major.  At school she is serving as the Secretary of Business Club, a member of Language Club, Future Business Leaders of America, Book Club and WYSE Club.  She also works at Kirby Foods IGA and puts in a lot of weekly hours.    

Briar Smith is the son of Chad and Brigit Smith.  He plans to major in Mechanical Engineering and is undecided on which college at this time.  His extracurricular activities include Golf, Drumline, Scholar Bowl, National Honor Society, Student Council, Business Club and Drama Club.  He is also serving as the Illinois FBLA  Eastern Area President and State Vice President from the Eastern Area.  

Henry Vonderheide is the son of Travis and Gina Vonderheide.  He hopes to attend West Point United States Military Academy and major in History or Chemistry.  He has been involved in Golf, Track, Scholar Bowl, Basketball Manager, Class Vice President, Student Council, National Honor Society, Spanish Club, Drama Club, Business Club, Future Business Leaders of America, WYSE Club, and History Club.
